Superdrug Haul

So I found myself in town this afternoon, and the inevitable happened. I parted with my money for make up.
Make up is one of my weaknesses and I only went in to grab a new foundation but ended up with a small bag full of goodies!

I ended up getting 2 foundations instead of just the one I wanted. I haven't tried either of these before, and wanted to try the Maybelline Dream Flawless Nude foundation on Gracie Francesca's recommendation. I saw the Rimmel Match Perfection came in a shade lighter than Ivory, and wanted to try that one too. I always think my foundations in Ivory are ever so slightly too dark for my very pale skin, so maybe Light Porcelain will be better?

I've wanted another Lipstick in the chubbi stick style, and chose the Rimmel one in a nice dusky pink colour. I find this colour suits my skin tone very nicely and is easily wearable everyday. I've also been meaning to grab another Blistex intensive moisturiser for a while now, so that also made its way into the bag!

I've tried so many Micellar cleansing waters, and have found they've all been harsh on my skin and dried it out within 2 uses. It makes my eyelids very dry and sore. I was just wandering up the aisles when the Simple Micellar Water jumped out at me. As the Simple range is meant to be kind and gentle on skin, I thought I'd give it one more shot before I give up on Micellar water forever.

Being a woman of dark hair and fair skin, I unfortunately have to remove unwanted hair on my upper lip. These Veet face wax strips are a repurchase as I have used them many times before and find they work very well for me.

I also wandered into The Bodyshop and got one of their body, room and linen sprays in the scent Green Tea and Lemon. It is a very fresh scent and I plan to use it in my bedroom.

And that' it! maybe only a small splurge to some, but it was quite big for me! I will try out all of my new products and let you know what I thought of them.

Carboot Bargains

So yesterday was the first day back at our local carboot sale. It is safe to say both myself and my mum have thoroughly missed going and getting some fab bargains the last few months. It was bitterly cold, and we wished we had layered up more, but it was worth it for what we got!

I'm a sucker for anything black and white, and picked up these 2 flower pictures for £2. They will be a perfect addition to my bedroom.

I've started to wear heels to work every day, and have been on the look out for some more suitable. The ones on the left are very high, but the black and white caught my eye. The ones on the right are a nice height and will be perfect for work. £2 for the left and £3 for the right.

I picked up these 2 jumpers. The stripe one is slightly cropped and cost me 50p. The cream one is like no jumper I own, and will be perfect for spring. It cost me £1.

These 2 tops were 50p each and will be spot on for work. Again, black and white! ha

The above 2 dresses were my first find, and cost me £1.50 for the 2. Again, monochrome. I can't seem to help myself!

I also picked up a couple of books for 20p each for my niece and little sister, and some cuddly toys for my dog Flo.

Looking forward to next Saturday!

Rainbow Cakes

I had a little bit of a baking session with my niece, and we made some rainbow cakes! This is really fun for both adults and kids to do, and super easy.

All you need to do is follow a basic cake recipe.

Here are the ingredients we used:
300g caster sugar
300g butter
5 eggs
300g self raising flour
Variety of food colouring

Beat the butter and sugar together until light in colour.
Add the eggs one at a time. If the mixture starts to curdle, add a small amount of flour and this will fix the problem.
Sift the rest of the flour into the mixture and fold in to add air to the mixture.

Separate the mixture into the amount of bowls you have food colouring for.
Add a different colour to each bowl of mixture until you have a rainbow of different colours.

Layer the coloured mixture into cupcake cases to create pretty rainbow designs

Bake in a pre-heated 180 degrees oven for 10-15 minutes

Eat and enjoy!

Work Outfit of the day

So here it is...my first fashion post!

I think I'm quite lucky in that I don't have a specific uniform for my job. As long as I am smart/casual with no trainers or jeans my boss is happy. This means I have a lot more choice in what I choose to wear on a day to day basis. I am not one of those people who have 'work clothes' and 'non work clothes'. I wear most of my wardrobe in and out of work, as I tend to dress relatively smart everyday by choice anyway. I guess this is the inner mod in me coming through!

From the photo above, you can probably see I am a fan of monochrome, which makes up pretty much all of my wardrobe! Today I chose to wear a black midi skirt from Primark. This is a staple in anyones wardrobe and is so versatile! My cardigan is originally from Warehouse, however I picked it up for 50p from a carboot sale! I love the white piping detail and the buttons to break the black outfit up a bit.

These newlook shoes are my favourite to wear to work! They add a little height, but are extremely comfortable to wear all day long.

My bag is by Fiorelli and is the perfect size for work. It is nice and structured and completes the outfit.

These bracelets are the ones I wear everyday:Pandora bracelet, a basic silver chain, and a quote bracelet. I very rarely wear any other jewellery than silver, and I love how these three look stacked on my wrist.

My blouse was purchased a couple of years back from a charity shop for a couple of pounds, and it has been a favourite ever since. It has an adorable peterpan collar which I love, and a cute bird print all over, which adds a little more interest to the whole outfit. It is very neutral colours, so goes with pretty much everything.

And here is a close up of my face! Not the best angle, but I wanted to show you a close up of the glasses I wore. I have done a separate post all on these, so check it out if you would like to know a bit more about them.

I made pork pies!

I love The Great British Bake Off, and whenever it is on TV I get really inspired to bake! On one of the Comic Relief special episodes they had to make pork pies, and I decided to give them a whirl myself....I mean how hard could it be?
For the recipe I googled Paul Hollywood's pork pie recipe to follow. Click here to see the recipe I used. Unfortunately I was unable to get hold of Quails eggs, so this is not part of my pies.

Step 1- Making the Pastry

 Step 2 - The Filling
Step 3 - Put it all together
 Step 4 - Bake!
 Step 5 - Eat

I have to be honest, I found it a lot harder than I thought. I think my pastry was too dry and I had to add more liquid to it as it was just crumbling when I attempted to put it into the baking tray. They turned out like little pies, instead of the kind of pork pie you get in a shop! Not 100% successful, but they were very yummy!
Maybe I will try again in the future, and hopefully get the pork pie I hoped for!

Jewellery Box Upcycle

My mum was having a clear out of her room and asked if I would have any use for her unwanted jewellery box. Now I already have 2 of my own, but saw potential in the one she gave me. It is very unlike any of the jewellery boxes I own, so I didn't see any harm in adding another!
It is prettier than my other very plain boxes, however, not completely my cup of tea. All of the accessories or little decorative pieces and furniture in my bedroom are either cream, white, silver or purple. So this wooden colour definitely doesn't have a place.
I knew straight away what I wanted to do with it, and that involved spray paint. Spray paint can completely transform an object to look like something totally different and new. I got mine from screwfix for under £5, so its nice and affordable. I have used it in the past for a number of different items, which I shall write a post about in the near future. You can use it on virtually any surface, and I have always been extremely happy with the results it gives. I have only used a white matte paint, as this id the colour to match nicely in my bedroom, however, it is available in a vast amount of colours.
I started off by filling the inside of each drawer with newspaper to prevent the inner sections from being coated in the spray paint. This is only because they have a fuzzy material inside. If they were wooden inside then I wouldn't have done this step.
I took everything outside and placed down some newspaper to ensure I didn't leave a mess. I didn't even make an effort to sand down the wood, I just made sure it was clean and dust free. Following the instructions on the spray can, I covered a light layer over the drawers and main box. I decided to spray over the glass design on the door as well. Due to the colours of the design, I thought it would look out of place with the rest being white.
As you can see from the above picture, one light covering has made a massive difference already. It is important to take your time with layering up the coats, as you don't want the paint to run if sprayed on too thickly.
I did 4 coats in total, and I feel that the revamped jewellery box will fit in perfectly with the rest of my bedroom.
I have many more plans using spray paint, and highly recommend it to transform tired out pieces!
